Robert Hall Pewter Originals

Thanks to Bob and Teddy Schmidt for arranging a visit for 27 members and partners to the Robert Hall Pewter Studio in St. George, where master pewtersmith, Robert, demonstrated how pewter is made and poured into molds.

Following the visit, the excursion group enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Café Troy in a warm and cozy room.

    History and Description

Robert Hall Originals is Ontario's largest Pewter Studio and Rock Shop. The truly unique 2600 square foot showroom and studio combines Canadian made treasures with Mother Nature's awesome beauty.

Canadian Master Pewtersmith, Robert Hall Parry, along with wife and business partner Betty, left their teaching professions in 1974 to follow their dream. Their business began in Lynden, moved to Burlington, and then in October of 1989 settled in the quaint village of St. George.

Proudly Canadian Made, each of the more than 3000 pewter giftware items is designed and created on site. Themes include Celtic, Canadian, Wildlife, Equestrian and many more. Robert has created many custom designs for corporations and organizations throughout North America including the presentation awards for the Hamilton Music Awards and most recently the Brantford & Area Shining Star Tourism Awards.

Each piece of lead free pewter starts with an idea, which is sketched out on paper and then sculpted into a detailed clay model. The clay model is baked hard and then it is pressed into a synthetic rubber mold at approximately a ton of pressure and then heated at 350 degrees. Little channels are then cut into the mold so that there are no air bubbles when the pewter is poured into it. Pewter comes shipped in a bar called an ingot. It is then heated to 550 degrees and is then spun throughout a mold, this process is called casting. Once cast, each piece is hand cleaned, tumbled and oxidized to bring the detail forward, then buffed to a satin finish and then hand assembled. Larger pewter pieces are painted with black graphite and buffed to show definition.
